My Personal Experience at Bario for 10 days

My name is Gary Loh Chee Wyai. One of the students that created the eBario.com website. In order to get some information of Bario, me and my friend, Su Chee Hoi, had been send into Bario for 10 days.

The 10 days experienced was sweet and good. Our journey started on the 10th October 2003. In a team of 3 peoples; me, Chee Hoi and Esther Bala (Unimas student from Bario), in a excited mood taking plane from Kuching International Airport to Miri International Airport around 8.00am. This is the first time I am flying on a small plane (Folker). It took about 45 minutes to reach Miri International Airport. But we stuck at Miri because of the plane going to Bario need to be delayed until tomorrow due to bad wheather at Bario. This is something tourist need to take extra percaution because the plane going to Bario often delay. So, we went to Miri city to get a room to stay overnight.

Miri city, it such a nice city. Even I am from the West Malaysia living at Ipoh city in the state of Perak, fall in love with this city which mostly known as "The city of light". The night scenery at Miri was so nice that me and Chee Hoi spend half of the night walking around the city. We just enough to spend a night at a motel at Miri because of our limited budget. But not bad, we still sleep well.

Early morning we went to Miri International Airport again. This time we got the confirmation that the Bario whether is good and we are ready to fly! This is the first time also I am flying in such a small plane (Twin Otter). In the plane, there were vegetables, eggs, cooking oil and even some chickens!! There is no other ways to get connected with Bario except thru air transport. Thats why we were sitting in a plane that full of foods which the Bario's peoples bought from Miri. Its a good experienced.

It took about 1 hour 15 minutes to reach Bario. The place is so nice even when we were in the plane. Its a place surrounded by highlands. We landed at Bario around 12pm and we proceed for our lunch at Bario's airport. Guess what we had, a bowl of Curry Maggie Mee with an egg.

I thought I can eat a plate of rice... Anyway, in order to get some good foods to fill our stomach, we need to book a lodge and let the logde's owner know in advance what we want to eat so that they got time to prepare it. Food is not easy to get at Bario because of it location deep inside highlands. But one thing for sure, the peoples there are so nice and kind. They will try their best to serve guess like us. This is the first time in my life I met peoples that nice.

So, the journey for 10 days begin.... I will update it from time to time as now I am at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak again to do my Master Research and also taking back the opportunity to upgrade and enhance the eBario.com website that created.

I need to find back my diary in order to write down the whole 10 days experienced that I spend at Bario. Update soon...
